Not really. They are a little heavier than a standard pushbike, but the extra weight is more than compensated for by the assistance of a powerful electric motor. The bikes have manual gear shifters but electric assistance means you don’t need to change gear as much as you would on a standard pedal bike.
Yes – the motor kicks in gradually as you start to pedal and gives you gentle assistance – especially up hills. It’s a bit like cycling with a tail wind wherever you go.
No – our bikes are restricted to a maximum assisted speed of 15mph in line with UK highway law. After that – if you want to go any faster – you’ll have to pedal much harder!
Our fleet suits riders of most ages and abilities, and we carry smaller bikes for younger riders. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. Just let us know the ages of your group when booking and we’ll make sure you have the right bikes.
The Forest of Bowland is beautiful in any weather, and our bikes are perfectly happy on damp trails. If conditions turn genuinely unsafe, just give us a call – we’re always happy to help you rearrange.
All our bikes are checked and serviced before every hire. In the unlikely event of a mechanical issue out on the trail, call the number provided at pick-up and we’ll come and help.
Yes – alongside self-guided hire with route maps, we offer guided rides across 10 routes through the Forest of Bowland. Get in touch to check availability.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join you on the trails on a lead. Just let us know in advance so we can advise on the best routes.
